Magnify The LORD!

1Whatever you FOCUS on becomes BIG in your life.

We talked about this last Sunday.  How big is the sun?  BIG.  You can fit 1.3 million planets the size of earth inside the sun.  That’s pretty big.   Yet, if you walk outside and see the sun shining what does it take to block it out?  A simple hand.  Question… is your hand anywhere near the size of the sun?   NO WAY?  Well how can your hand block out the sun?  Answer?  Perspective.  Your hand is many times smaller than the sun, but it’s also many times closer than the sun.

David was known as a man after God’s heart.   He did a lot of things WRONG, but he also did a lot of things RIGHT.   One of the things he did right was in the way he worshiped the Lord.   On one occasion he is running from King Saul who wants to kill him.  David wrote Psalm 34 while he was alone and on the run.

Psalm 34:1–3
1 I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.

Notice in verse 3 the word “MAGNIFY,” and think about what it means.  When you MAGNIFY something you bring it up close and into focus.  That is what it means to worship and that is one of the reasons David is called a “Man after God’s Own Heart.”

David continually stirred himself to worship God proclaiming in verse 1, “His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”  A casual worshiper would’ve been completely overwhelmed in David’s situation, but David knew that to worship God was to MAGNIFY Him.

When you worship, you are MAGNIFYING Him.  Yet here’s the thing when you worship… you not only MAGNFIFY God, but you also reduce the size and power over everything else around you.

The greatest thing you can do in the midst of Spiritual Warfare is MAGNFIFY the Lord.  David knew that.   Another person who knew that was King Jehoshaphat.  In 2 Chronicles chapter 20, Judah was being overwhelmed by its enemies and Jehoshaphat proclaimed a national fast and gathered the people together to seek the Lord.  Then he sent his army out to meet the enemy, but he sent an army of worshipers in the lead to sing and MAGNIFY the Lord.  What happened? GOD gave them the victory.   In fact, the chapter ends talking about how the fear of God was on all the Kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.

Folks, it’s time we do that not only in our individual lives, but in our churches and in our nation.  It’s time to get our eyes off the world and onto the LORD and MAGNIFY Him!

Shalom,

Bill
